Continuing with the parallel tours of Breathe Owl Breathe, and the Painted Bird, Daniel and his band were performing at TT the Bear’s, a couple blocks away on the same street we were staying on, with Micah’s cousin. We ran into them as we walked down the street in search of a movie to rent.

The next day, we took a stiff, sore Micah back to Brooklyn for our final gig at Goodbye Blue Monday where we opened up for female French punk duo, The Human Toys. The venue was full of fine animals, and lots of assorted junk, inside, and out, that was all for sale. There to see the show were Joseph Harms Mahoney and Greg Stovetop, good friends and magnificent singer-songwriters from Chelsea, Michigan. Stovetop came for the show, and took us back to his loft, which he shared with his roommate, Lawrence, and his paraplegic cat.
The next day, we had a lovely lunch at a Vegan pan-Asian restaurant called Wild Ginger, and perused the bookshops, record stores and cafes of Williamsburg before heading back, where we spent our final evening with Susan Fawcett’s 90 year old grandmother in Twinnsburg, Ohio.
For the first national tour, most bands are lucky to break even. We ended up a CD or two in the black, after tallying communal groceries, gas and tolls. The best part is always seeing new places and making new friends, and sharing music with hundreds of people who never saw it coming. The film documenting the tour is currently being edited by Yoni Goldstein in Chicago, and will be available through Fox on a Hill when it is completed.
